Proposed operating permit - Reykjavík Department of Environment & Planning, waste reception for temporary storage and reuse as fill material at Esjumelar

Reykjavík Public Health has drafted a temporary operating permit for the Reykjavík Department of Environment & Planning's Office of Construction and Maintenance at Esjumelar for new operations. The permit covers receiving excavated soil from construction at Höfðar for temporary storage and reuse as fill material at Esjumelar. The proposal outlines that operations must comply with both the Reykjavík Public Health Committee's standard conditions for polluting activities and specific requirements for the Reykjavík City Department of Environment & Planning's waste storage and reuse operations at Esjumelar. The permit would remain valid through May 31, 2026. The draft permit documents will be available on the Reykjavík Public Health website at https://reykjavik.is/public-announcement-of-proposed-operating-permits from January 20 to February 18, 2025. During this period, the public is invited to submit comments and feedback on the draft permit. Comments must be submitted in writing to Reykjavík Public Health at Borgartún 12-14, 105 Reykjavík or by email to heilbrigdiseftirlit@reykjavik.is.
