Board of Félagsbústaðir Social Housing

In December 1996, the City Council of Reykjavík approved the creation of a corporation for the ownership and operation of social housing on behalf of Reykjavík City.

The decision followed a report by engineer Þórarinn Magnússon, commissioned by the Mayor, on the operation model for social housing in the city, and a working group that had previously worked on the sale of City properties was tasked with preparing the company's establishment.

Félagsbústaðir hf. was established on April 8, 1997, based on Nordic experience with similar operations. The company is almost entirely owned by the Reykjavík Municipal Treasury, while the Department of Welfare of Reykjavík holds a negligible share.

The board of Félagsbústaðir includes Haraldur Flosi Tryggvason, chair, Ellý Alda Þorsteinsdóttir, Magnús Davíð Norðdahl, Kjartan Magnússon, and Ragnheiður Björk Halldórsdóttir.
