Two employees working in residential centres for disabled people have been diagnosed with Covid-19.  All necessary measures have been taken in order to prevent further infections, without having to compromise daily services to the residents.

The residential centres in question are located in Breiðholt and Grafarvogur.  Both employees were working in close contact with residents, who require 24-hour assistance.

Detailed plan of action has been laid out in close cooperation with the Civil Defence Infection Control Team and the Director of Health. The Emergency Committee of the Welfare Department was furthermore convened and will be coordinating actions.  It will be ensured that all residents will continue to receive the services and support they need to maintain their daily lives, within their own homes.

Six employees in the residential centre in Grafarvogur have been placed under quarantine, as well as some 20 employees at the centre in Breiðholt. The Welfare Department is now working on finding staff for all shifts so that the needs of residents can be met.

The two residents who came in close contact with the infected employees, are also in quarantine. They have already been tested, and their health will be closely monitored for the next two weeks.

The City of Reykjavík operates some 70 homes and residents that provide 24-hour services.
