Dagur B. Eggertsson borgarstjóri og Mikael Marinó Rivera, Reykvíkingur ársins 2023, í Ráðhúsinu með viðurkenningar sínar fyrir Reykvíking ársins og heiðursfélaga Veiðifélags Rimaskóla.

Mikael Marinó Rivera, who was named Reykjavík resident of the Year 2023, visited Mayor Dagur B. Eggertsson at Reykjavík City Hall today and was officially presented with his award.

Mikael is a primary school teacher at Rimaskóli in Grafarvogur and has taken new approaches to engaging students who do not find themselves in traditional subjects at school. Among other things, he has offered optional courses in fly fishing and introduced fishing to young people on his initiative, where he combines teaching in natural science and biology with promoting fly fishing as a sport and a good outdoor opportunity. It went very well when the mayor announced the selection of Reykjavík resident of the Year for the thirteenth time, at the opening of Elliðaá river this summer.

Herald of joy and unconventional ways in school work

Mikael has not only looked to the hunt when it comes to the non-traditional electives he offers, but his other subjects include Mikael's Driving School, which is a preparation for a traditional driving school, Lord of the Rings, which delves deeper into Tolkien's mind world, and a podcast. In contrast, students learn to make podcasts, from scripting to publishing content. He has also offered an optional episode about European soccer, where the matches of the week in the biggest leagues in Europe are reviewed and more. He has thus, through various means, worked tirelessly to promote the interest of students who have come to school. He has also promoted a good work ethic at Rimaskóli and brought joy to the school work in various ways.

It went well with Mikael and the mayor today as they met on a pleasant note during Advent and discussed the benefits and needs of the country. It can even be said that hunting has been a problem. Mikael came to the rescue and presented Dagur with an honorary medal from Veiðifélag Rimaskóla, which confirms that Dagur is its first honorary member. Then the mayor received the card "Makkerinn", which is a question board game about angling in Iceland, but the Reykjavík resident of the year is the author of the board game that is expected to be in stores.

We congratulate Mikael again on his designation and thank him for his excellent work in the Reykjavík school system.
