Reykjavík City has been chosen to participate in an 18-month climate innovation project funded by the European Union. Reykjavík is one of 48 cities selected for the project, which aims to support cities' goals to accelerate their journey towards carbon neutrality by 2030. The funding amounts to 600,000 euro, equivalent to over 90 million króna.

Seeking ways to reduce climate impact

The funding will be used to assess the climate impact of development in Reykjavík and explore ways to reduce it. The goal is to evaluate how development affects residents' travel habits. The project will also compare the environmental costs of different parking solutions and the climate impact of various building materials and construction methods. Reykjavík's partner in this project is VSÓ ráðgjöf.

Supported by NetZeroCities

The funding is granted to some of the cities selected as participants in the European collaboration for 112 carbon-neutral and smart cities. The project will be carried out with support from NetZeroCities, like the carbon-neutral and smart cities project, and will be used to support the creation of Reykjavík City's climate agreement.
