Each year, Reykjavík City recognizes well-executed renovations of older houses and exemplary grounds of services, institutions, and multi-family dwellings. Additionally, awards are given for “summer streets,” well-designed areas in front of shops and services during the summer.
We are now seeking suggestions for houses and grounds deserving of a beautification award this year. Selection will be made by a working group including officers from the Department of Environment & Planning and the City Museum.
Suggestions should be submitted via email with the subject “Fegrunarviðurkenningar 2023” (2024 Beautification Awards) to skipulag@reykjavik.is by July 20, 2023.
Award history
The Reykjavík City Beautification Committee was appointed in May 1968. The following social organizations were represented on the Committee: The Architects' Association of Iceland, Housewives' Association of Reykjavík, Gardening Association of Iceland, and Reykjavík Homeowners' Association. On the anniversary of Reykjavík City on August 18, 1968, the Beautification Committee chose Safamýri as the most beautiful street in the city for the first time. Every year on the anniversary of the founding of Reykjavík, the Beautification Committee presents awards for beautiful houses and gardens in Reykjavík.
