Bridge repairs at Gullinbrú are in their final stages, with work ongoing since late June. The bridge repair team of the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration managed the complex project in collaboration with Freyssinet.
This was a fairly complex project. Key tasks included removing deteriorated corten steel cladding from the bridge. The steel had become very rusty, risking parts falling onto the biking path below and endangering pedestrians and cyclists.
Expansion joints on the surface were also rebuilt and minor concrete repairs were made. We also cleaned and fixed drains, attached conduits for electrical cables, and completed several small tasks.
