No violence tolerated at Reykjavík nightclubs
An agreement for violence-free and safe nightclubs was signed today. This is the fifth time it is signed. The goal is to ensure Reykjavík nightclubs are violence-free and safe for all guests and staff.
The agreement aims to ensure communication and cooperation between Reykjavík City, Emergency Line 112, Icelandic Travel Industry Association, Reykjavík Nightclub Association, Reykjavík Metropolitan Police The, National Commissioner of Police, and Capital Area Fire Department.
The agreement aims to prevent all possible violence at nightclubs. No form of violence is tolerated, including gender-based violence, sexual harassment, prostitution, human trafficking, and violence based on racism or other prejudices against immigrants or LGBT+ people.
First signed in 2016 with 17 nightclubs, the agreement now includes 30 clubs.
A team from Reykjavík City, Reykjavík Metropolitan Police and, and Capital Area Fire Department visits participating clubs annually. They check if clubs meet safety requirements and provide staff with information. Stickers indicating participation are displayed visibly for guests. Security cameras are installed at restrooms and entrances.
Reykjavík Metropolitan Police report fewer violent incidents at participating nightclubs. The team has improved communication and understanding between all parties.
