Reykjavík City, Reykjavík Energy (OR), and Veitur Utilities have finalized an agreement to install and operate neighborhood charging stations at 94 street parking spaces throughout the city.

The goal is to support the transition to electric transportation with accessible and user-friendly charging solutions in city neighborhoods.

Following the agreement's signing, Reykjavík City has met with all service providers involved in the project and provided locations for charging station installation. While some locations are still under development, most stations are expected to be installed and ready for use within a few weeks.

This is an important step towards more sustainable transportation in Reykjavík, improving access for electric vehicle owners and facilitating the switch to electric cars.

The charging stations will be located near multi-family residences and public parking areas, in line with the City's policy to support the transition to electric vehicles for residents who cannot park and charge at their own property.

The project is part of Reykjavík City's vision for a more climate-friendly city and is carried out in close cooperation with Veitur and OR. The total number of public charging spaces in this collaborative project between Reykjavík City, Veitur, and OR has now reached 372. Additionally, Reykjavík City operates numerous charging spaces in City parking garages.

Residents are encouraged to check for updates on charging station locations on the Reykjavík City website as they become operational.
