Mayor attends Council of Europe meeting in Strasbourg

Einar Þorsteinsson, the Mayor of Reykjavík, spoke at the Council of Europe's Congress of Local and Regional Authorities in Strasbourg last week, focusing on environmental issues.

The Mayor was a special guest at the congress and presented the Green Deal, which outlines the City's vision for a healthier, greener, and more equitable society by 2030, emphasizing the environment, economy, and community.

Einar stated in his speech that the Green Deal is not only Reykjavík's policy agenda but also represents the City's unwavering commitment in the fight against catastrophic climate change and in protecting our environment. He emphasized that through this initiative, we aim to serve as a model for other cities:

"The Green Deal integrates all of the City's key policies and plans across various sectors," Einar said, "serving as a beacon for a healthier, greener, and more equitable society that provides quality services to residents and a robust economic environment without depleting natural resources."

"I am convinced that by focusing on climate issues as a core part of our overall strategy, promoting sustainable economic growth, services, and welfare, we will improve the health and quality of life of our residents along the way. That's the essence of the Green Deal."
