It was a wonderful moment when the children at Drafnarsteinn handed over 420 thousand ISK to Erna Dagný Hjaltalín at UNICEF, which the staff association and parents' association of the kindergarten had collected to support children in Gasa. They raised money by selling T-shirts illustrated with the children's self-portraits and with the poem Lísa's portrait by Olga Guðrún Árnadóttir on the back.
The poem changed so that everyone can relate to the metaphor
200 T-shirts have been printed and there is hope that another good amount can be delivered in the new year when all the T-shirts have been sold. The poem on the T-shirts has been changed in collaboration with Olga Guðrún to fit better with the changing image of society. The line of poetry "eyes so blue" has therefore been changed to "brown eyes and blue" and should make sure that everyone can identify with the metaphor.
Isn't the earth for everyone?
"It has been shocking to observe the development at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea, and we who have the quality to care for children who live in freedom and peace want to join the fight for peace. Advocating for peace and reflecting on how we discuss the situation in the world today with our children has been on our minds. The school's parents' association plans to take over the role and offer educational sessions on how we discuss the situation in the world today with our children," says Arnar Dan, head of department at Trölladyngja.
Lísa's photo. A song from the poem is sung a lot at the kindergarten, and the question of whether the earth is not for everyone is in focus.
Lísa's portrait
Yellow for the sun,
green for life,
grey for those who drive men into war.
White for children
who pray for peace,
ask the same to be allowed to live like us.
Isn't the earth for everyone?
take a piece of paper
and paint
a picture where everyone has a safe place.
Brown eyes and blue,
beating hearts,
hands that joyfully hold freedom.
Then the earth will be for everyone.
