Covid-19

Following the government decision to return to stricter precautions against infection by Covid-19, the City of Reykjavík emergency committee met today to discuss the increased need for precautions against infection within the City’s organisations, in accord with the response plan. City of Reykjavík services will remain largely unchanged, while procedures will take account of the new restrictions on the maximum number of people in each space.

Earlier this week municipal employees were urged to be conscientious in their individual hygiene and precautions against infection, and managers have reviewed infection precautions in workplaces. Special guidance has been issued with regard to staff who are coming to work after being abroad, in order to reduce the risk of infection.

In order to safeguard vulnerable groups, the Department of Welfare has restricted as far as possible the number of visitors to residents. Guidance has been issued to families and friends of residents in nursing homes, service apartments for the elderly, assisted-living units and group homes for people with disabilities. The Department of Welfare will not at present close any units or reduce service, for instance in social programmes for the elderly or in canteen services, but the rule on two-metre distancing will be carefully observed, and restrictions on numbers will apply.

Museums, galleries and libraries will function largely as before, while respecting restrictions on numbers and the two-metre distancing rule.

Swimming pools will remain open, with restrictions. A maximum of 100 people are permitted in each space, and the two-metre distancing rule must be observed. Signs regarding restrictions on numbers will be installed at hot tubs and saunas, and hand sanitizer will be available. The same rules apply at the Geothermal Beach. Opening hours remain unchanged.

The Family Park and Zoo will restriction the number of visitors, and a circulation system has been introduced to limit risk of infection. All regular events involving the animals are cancelled, and the fox and mink house, the small- animals house, the reptile house and the Þrumufleygur game are closed. Numbers will be restricted in the restaurant, and vending machines in the snack shop and barbecue area will be closed. There will be restrictions on the number of adults on certain rides. Indoor and outdoor contact surfaces will be cleaned more frequently. Opening times remain unchanged.

The City of Reykjavík is ready to respond to the evolving situation, and will introduce appropriate measures as required, in consultation with the Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management and the Chief Epidemiologist.

Information on Covid-19 from the City of Reykjavík will be published on the website  reykjavik.is/covid19  in Icelandic, English and Polish.
