The Reykjavík City Accessibility Recognition aims to raise the profile of accessibility issues and highlight exceptional work in this area.

Accessibility, in the broadest sense, is a critical human rights issue and the foundation for ensuring that people with diverse accessibility needs can participate fully in society on equal terms.

Who deserves recognition for advancing accessibility?

The recognition is awarded to individuals, groups, nonprofit organizations, businesses or institutions that have demonstrated outstanding commitment to promoting accessibility through diverse approaches.

The following have received the Reykjavík City Accessibility Award:

2024 Katarzyna Beata Kubis received the award for creating an information forum designed for guardians and immediate family of disabled children.

2023 Bíó Paradís for significantly improving access to the cinema for disabled people with diverse accessibility needs.

2022 Inga Björk Margrétar-Bjarnadóttir for her advocacy for improved accessibility in the digital world.

2021Haraldur Þorleifssonfor the Ramp Up Reykjavík project.

2020 Campaign Against Militarism and Friðarhús SHA ehf. for a significant accessibility initiative: installing a wheelchair lift at Friðarhúsið.

2019 Áslaug Katrín Aðalsteinsdóttir and Berglind Hallgrímsdóttirfor developing a handbook on universal design in outdoor environments.

2018The Icelandic Association of the Visually Impaired for its wide-ranging work on behalf of blind and visually impaired people, which has greatly improved the group's access to society.
