Mayor Heiða Björg visits Breiðholt
Mayor Heiða Björg's Neighborhood Days started in Grafarholt and Úlfarsárdalur on Sept. 8. Now it's Breiðholt's turn, with the program beginning Monday, Sept. 29.
During Neighborhood Days in Breiðholt , the mayor will visit city schools and institutions, learn about their varied activities and meet with city staff in the neighborhood. She'll also speak with residents and representatives from community organizations, sports clubs and parent associations. There will also be open events where people can discuss issues with her.
Diverse public life
The Breiðholt neighborhood is the city's most populated district. The neighborhood takes its name from a farm by the same name that once stood where Skógarsel is today.
Breiðholt focuses on strong neighborhood activities with diverse public life as a priority. Mjódd houses a service center and transportation hub. The neighborhood features strong school, recreation and sports programs, including excellent athletic facilities at ÍR and Leiknir.
Gerðuberg serves as the neighborhood's culture center. It includes a quality library, café and community space, along with diverse events and exhibits.
The neighborhood's closeness to Elliðaárdalur and Heiðmörk provides varied opportunities for exercise and outdoor recreation. Horseback riding is available nearby in Víðidalur, and there's a disc golf course at the upper end of Elliðaárdalur.
Chat with the mayor
Heiða Björg will lead an art walk with Sigurður Traustason from Reykjavík Art Museum at 5pm on Sept. 29. The walk begins at Gerðuberg and will include opportunities to discuss issues with the mayor.
On Wednesday, Oct. 1, the mayor will host a coffee chat in Mjódd at 4pm. We encourage everyone who can attend to come and join the conversation.
Everyone is welcome!
Next, Neighborhood Days will take place in Vesturbær, beginning Monday, Oct. 13.
