About Magnea Gná

Magnea Gná Jóhannsdóttir was born in Reykjavík on April 3, 1997, but grew up in Bolungarvík. She earned an International Baccalaureate from the United World College RCN in Norway in 2017. That same year, Magnea moved to Thailand, where she worked as an intern on the development of the international school United Word College Thailand. In 2021, Magnea completed a BA degree at the University of Iceland Faculty of Law and she is currently pursuing a master's degree at the same department. She is the daughter of Jóhann Hannibalsson, a long-time farmer in Hanhóll in Bolungarvík who now works as an avalanche observer and teacher and Guðrún Stella Gissurardóttir, who is the director of the Westfjord Directorate of Labor.

Career

Magnea Gná is the chair of Youth Progress (I. “Ung Framsókn”) in Reykjavík and the former publicist of the Association of Young Progressives. Prior to joining City Council, Magnea studied law at the University of Iceland Faculty of Law and held the position of International Secretary of Orator, the society of law students at the University of Iceland. She has been active in social activities, including on the Equal Rights Committee of the University of Iceland Student Council and the United World College Red Cross Nordic Student Council.

Magnea has had various jobs over the years including running a maritime and natural heritage museum, as a tourist guide, assistant teacher, and recreational instructor at Þróttheimar Youth Center, and for the Kópavogur Privacy Office, the Westfjord Nature Research Center, as well as for a legal repository and a book publisher.
