Chief Executive Officer

The Chief Executive Officer is the highest ranked official in Reykjavik, except for the Mayor, and is one of the Mayor’s substitutes. Leads large and complex projects that require coordination within Reykjavík City's system of governance and with external partners.

Provides leadership and coordination for Reykjavík City's administration and services and serves as the city's liaison with regional partnerships and subsidiaries in accordance with Reykjavík City's ownership policy.

The Chief Executive Officer oversees the Office of the Mayor and Chief Executive Officer, the communications and events office, and the human rights office. The Chief Executive Officer is a member of the senior administration and Reykjavík City Emergency Management and attends City Executive Council meetings.
