Donations from the City Fund


The deadline for City Fund grants for projects in 2022 expired on October 15, 2020. 12:00 noon on October 01, 2021.

Objective of the project

Among the objectives of sponsorship are to strengthen and encourage partnerships with civil society organizations, businesses and individuals for constructive activities and services in line with the city's strategic objectives, priorities and priorities. Grants are awarded to projects in the following areas:

  • Social and welfare
  • School and Recreation
  • Sports and Outdoor Activities
  • Human Rights Defenders

How to apply?

Applications for grants will be made electronically.

Applications must be submitted within the prescribed time-limit and comply with the requirements laid down by the CoR rules.

When assessing applications, the CoR's rules on subsidies and the CoR's human rights policy will be taken into account.

Applications will be evaluated based on the following:

  • Objectives outlined and whether they are likely to be achieved
  • Whether the work and time schedule is realistic
  • Whether it is possible to assess the progress of the works
  • Whether the submission forms and previous projects that have received funding meet the minimum requirements
  • Expected results and benefits for the activity in question
  • Budget and clarification of alternative financing to be also attached to application
  • How well they fit in with the CoR's human rights policy and the objectives of introducing a gender-focused budget and work programme
  • Events or projects are not supported as appropriate.
  • In this case, grants are given to everyone equally, not for the purchase of property, nor for the payment of real estate fees.
Also, the fields may each have their own focus when it comes to awarding grants.

Guidance for Individuals

If you haven't signed up for Electronic Reykjavík before, you'll need to create an account. After that, you will be sent a password to the home bank. After that, you can log in and click on applications. Under the "Donations" category, click on "City Fund Grant Application". After an application has been submitted, it can be viewed and the status of the proceedings can be monitored.

Corporate/Civil Society Guide

It is necessary to register your company and access Electronic Business Portal - "Application for access to the corporate portal". Once a password has been sent to your company's home bank, you can log in to the homepage of Electronic Reykjavik. Once logged in, user clicks on "Applications". Under the "Donations" category, click on "City Fund Grant Application".
