Welfare technology

Reykjavík City places emphasis on testing and implementing welfare technology in the service of its residents with the aim of making it easier for people to live in their own homes with better quality of life, despite aging, disability, or illness.

What is welfare technology?

Welfare technology can be any technology used to maintain or increase the safety, functionality, or independence of people in everyday life. Welfare technology can improve the work environment and lead to better use of the time of staff and capital resources.

Strategy and action plan

In May 2022, Reykjavík City published its Policy on Welfare Technology, which is valid until 2026. Subsequently, an action plan for the Welfare Technology Center was developed for the years 2022-2023. Here you can read more about the Policy and Action Plan.

Welfare technology being tested

The Welfare Technology Center is testing welfare technology in the services provided to users of Reykjavík City's welfare services. The duration of the testing can range from a few weeks to several years. If the results of the tests show success, procurement and implementation will follow. Currently, testing is being conducted on screen visits and automatic medication dispenser in the City's home care services.
