Operating permit proposal

Department of Environment & Planning, Office of City Land - Bryggjuhverfi

Reykjavík Public Health has prepared a proposal for an operating permit for the Department of Environment & Planning of Reykjavík City, Office of Development and Maintenance in Bryggjuhverfi near Sævarhöfði due to operational changes. The operations involve receiving waste for reuse, namely the receipt of clean soil materials and excavation from building foundations, which already have an operating permit.

With the application for a change, on one hand, it is requested to increase reception by 100,000 cubic meters from marine extraction and crushing of stone materials (gravel and sand excavation) to obtain overlay material to reduce the risk of dust from material piles. The proposal recommends that the operations adhere to the general operating permit conditions of the Reykjavík Public Health Committee for polluting activities and the operating conditions for the Department of Environment & Planning of Reykjavík City, Office of Development & Maintenance, for waste reception for reuse in landfill near Sævarhöfði and stone crushing within the activity area.

The proposed validity period is 12 years. Information regarding the proposal is accessible from May 11, 2023, to June 8, 2023. During this period, everyone is entitled to submit comments and suggestions regarding the proposal. Comments must be in writing and sent to Reykjavík Public Health at Borgartún 12-14, 105 Reykjavík, or via email to heilbrigdiseftirlit@reykjavik.is.
