The City Attorney represents the City of Reykjavik and its institutions on legal issues. The City Attorney serves as the City’s lawyer and legal representative and draws up contracts on behalf of the City.

The City Attorney performs reviews and drafts documentation for departments and institutions relating to their agreements with third parties.

The public office of the City Attorney represents the City of Reykjavik against claims for damages.

The public office also manages the settlement of accident compensation on the basis of collective agreements. The terms of salaried worker’s accident insurance are governed by the rules adopted by the City Council meeting of June 5, 1990, No. 1/-90 for accidents suffered by employees (IS) at work and No. 2/-90 for accidents suffered by employees outside the workplace (IS).
