Emergency phase was declared yesterday by the Icelandic Civil Defence, to take effect as of midnight Sunday 4 October. This calls for further restrictions on gatherings and stricter infection control measures.
The City of Reykjavík Emergency Committee commenced yesterday to overview the City’s Plan of Action, in response to these new developments of the Covid-19 crisis. All departments called upon their emergency boards over the weekend, to work on new plans in consultation with Civil Defence, in order to keep all necessary services intact at the same time.
Impact on City Services
Masks are now obligatory at Community Centres for senior citizens
The Welfare Department strives to make sure that services will remain intact at all Community Centres and 73 residences with round-the-clock service. This includes homes and residence centres for disabled people, short-term accommodations for disabled children, shelters and half-way houses for homeless people, Droplaugarstaðir and Seljahlíð nursing homes, as well as five service-residences for senior citizens.
Special emphasis is placed on ensuring that services for people in vulnerable situations will not be reduced or only slightly adjusted, while guaranteeing utmost safety in terms of infection control.
Therefore, services remain mostly intact, but please pay attention to the following:
The one-metre rule will continue to apply, and the use of masks is now obligatory in circumstances where it is difficult to maintain social distancing.
