VÆB premieres the Children's Culture Festival song at Breiðholtsskóli
Students at Breiðholtsskóli buzzed with excitement at lunchtime today when VÆB — the duo made up of brothers Matthías Davíð Matthíasson and Hálfdán Helgi Matthíasson — arrived to perform this year's Children's Culture Festival song.
Sama hver það er
Children waited eagerly at the school entrance; once the duo arrived, even more kids rushed from every direction to meet their idols. The brothers greeted the children warmly and chatted with them before heading into the school hall to prepare for the performance.
This year's Children's Culture Festival theme is "empathy and community," and fourth-grade students at schools across the city answered questions about what those words mean to them. The brothers then wrote the lyrics and music for "Sama hver það er" ("No matter who you are"), drawing directly from the children's responses.
When VÆB took the stage in the school hall, the crowd nearly lost control, cheering endlessly. The brothers performed this year's Children's Culture Festival song, "Sama hver það er," and the children joined in enthusiastically, clapping along to the beat.
The roof nearly came off when they followed up with their hit song "Róa." At the end of the concert, children rushed the stage, eager for autographs from Hálfdán and Matthías.
The energy will surely be just as electric when VÆB performs "Sama hver það er" for a full house of children at the Children's Culture Festival opening ceremony in Eldborg at Harpa on April 20th The opening ceremony broadcasts live on RÚV 2 on April 20, with coverage starting at 12:15 p.m. p.m.
