Reykjavík receives two nominations for the Icelandic Web Awards
Reykjavík has earned two nominations for the Icelandic Web Awards, which will be presented at Harpa on Thursday, March 26. Both nominations are in the AI of the Year category—one for user-centered AI assistance on the web and the other for automated translation.
The Web Awards in their 25th year
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Icelandic Web Awards, with honors presented in 16 categories. This year, 79 web solutions were nominated, including the two from Reykjavík City.
The awards are organized by the Web Industry Association (SVEF), the professional association for those working in web-related fields in Iceland.
The association received 220 web solution submissions this year. In addition to the AI category where Reykjavík is nominated, other categories include app of the year, content and news outlet of the year, business website of the year, and e-commerce site of the year.
User-centered AI assistance
Reykjavik.is features two solutions based on artificial intelligence that aim to streamline users' access to services and information. The web assistant (AI chat) has been live on the Reykjavík City website since December 2024, and in early August 2025, an AI summary feature was added to the general search on reykjavik.is.
Automated translation
The reykjavik.is website has an AI-powered translation system that works automatically for staff who publish content. This makes the City's information and services available in English for residents who don't have Icelandic as their native language. The system has been under continuous development since 2020 and now covers nearly all content on the City's website, from news and service pages to forms on My Pages.
Congratulations to everyone involved in this outstanding achievement!
