Parking tariff zones and paid parking structure under review
The City Council voted today to review parking tariff zones and the overall structure of paid parking. The City Council also authorized a comprehensive review of the procedures for expanding paid parking areas, including the pricing models and enforcement hours applicable to each.
The approved proposals include the following:
- Officials will evaluate fees in tariff zone P1 and reclassify portions of zone P2 as P3, where parking remains free on evenings and weekends.
- The City will also evaluate the enforcement of paid parking on Sundays. A review of paid parking in residential neighborhoods aims to make resident parking permits more flexible and simplify the application process.
- A targeted public awareness campaign will highlight Reykjavík City's parking garages and explain how to access them.
Consultation with residents and stakeholders
Once revisions to the fee schedule and paid parking are complete, officials must submit the proposals to the Consultation Portal prior to final approval, as these changes affect everyone living in or visiting Reykjavík. The City will directly notify residents and stakeholders in the affected areas.
Additional amendments emerged in response to the original proposal from the Independence Party city councilor. A recording of this discussion is available on the Reykjavík City website.
