New sculpture on Grensásvegur
Passersby have surely noticed the striking sculpture when driving along Suðurlandsbraut near Grensásvegur. This sculpture by visual artist Rósa Gísladóttir, called "Stanslaus," was chosen for installation at the new building on Grensásvegur 1 in partnership with the property owner and Reykjavík City following a competition for artwork on the site. The project was a collaboration between the property owner and Reykjavík City with support from the Association of Icelandic Visual Artists, and Reykjavík Art Museum managed the project.
A landmark for the area
The work "Stanslaus" was chosen from submitted proposals, and the selection committee's official statement notes that the work effectively responds to the curved lines of the building. Part of the work features vibrantly colored glass, and the sculpture will be equally stunning day and night with attractive lighting. The work is expected to become a landmark for the building and surrounding area, adding an interesting element to the streetscape of Grensásvegur, particularly around the new building and its important intersection where many drivers, cyclists and pedestrians pass through daily.
