Five artists selected to develop proposals for Orkan Site
Five artists have been chosen to create proposals for public artworks at the Orkan Site on Suðurlandsbraut. The five artists chosen by the selection committee to create proposals are Emma Heiðarsdóttir, Eva Ísleifsdóttir, Jóna Hlíf Halldórsdóttir, Sigurður Árni Sigurðsson and Unndór Egill Jónsson.
To enhance quality and create a better environment
Reykjavík City and local property owners are collaborating to commission public art that enhances the urban environment, with a total budget of up to 32 million króna.
The Orkan Site is bordered by Suðurlandsbraut, Grensásvegur, Ármúli, and Dalsmúli. The competition area includes the buildings, their courtyards, and the surrounding landscape.
Visual artists were invited this summer to participate in the preliminary selection for a closed competition for public artwork at the site. The Reykjavík Art Museum oversees the competition, which follows the competition rules of the Association of Icelandic Visual Artists (SÍM)—a closed competition with open pre-selection.
The artists have now visited the site to get familiar with the local conditions. Hilmar Ágústsson, landowner and managing director of Safír, and architect Helgi Mar Hallgrímsson welcomed the group, and the accompanying photos were taken during this visit.
