Hólabrekkuskóli's upper primary school returns to Breiðholt
Moving Hólabrekkuskóli's upper primary school back from Korpuskóli began before Christmas and wrapped up this week. Everyone is thrilled to be back in the neighborhood, according to the principal and assistant principal, who say both students and staff gained a valuable and memorable experience from their time at Korpuskóli.
A welcome return to the neighborhood
Principal Lovísa Guðrún Ólafsdóttir and assistant principal Guðbjörg Oddsdóttir say it's truly wonderful to have the upper primary school back in the neighborhood, closer to students' homes and leisure activities. "The move was a major challenge at the time, but went better than we expected. Our experience at Korpuskóli was positive because the school is an incredibly beautiful building with lovely open spaces. The environment at Korpa is also unique, with close access to nature, the shoreline and enjoyable trails. Teachers used the environment as an opportunity and connected it to creative learning, for example through outdoor education and hikes," says Lovísa, emphasizing how solution-focused, positive and determined both staff and students were in making the best of things. The partnership with the parent community was exemplary and invaluable.
A valuable lesson learned
Guðbjörg says students experienced less overstimulation by being in a calmer and more comfortable environment. "Nobody could slip out to Bónus during recess because there was nothing like that nearby, but despite the pleasant experience, it's obviously important for students and staff to get back to their own neighborhood." Both Lovísa and Guðbjörg say the experience ultimately proved to be a valuable lesson. The bus rides turned out to be an exciting part of the routine that left less room for showing up late, though things obviously got complicated if someone overslept or was late for other reasons.

Korpuskóli, modern and high-quality school facilities
Part of the school had to be evacuated due to facility problems and construction in fall 2023, and finding space for a large group of students can be challenging. The school was able to use Korpuskóli, which offers modern and high-quality school facilities, and it quickly became clear that repairs at Hólabrekkuskóli would take considerable time. Due to the scope of construction, it was considered important to seize the opportunity and make changes to the old facilities, such as opening up spaces, improving acoustics and more so it would suit modern teaching methods like team teaching.
Pleased with new portable housing on the grounds
Portable classrooms have been placed on the school grounds, which Lovísa and Guðbjörg are really pleased with. They say the facilities are exemplary and the finishing work is excellent; the acoustics are outstanding and it's very comfortable there. You can hardly call these portable classrooms since they're really gorgeous school facilities with all the amenities.
