Enrollment open for 1st grade primary school and after-school programs
Enrollment is now open for 1st grade in primary school and after-school programs for the 2026-2027 school year. The school year starts Aug. 24, 2026.
Primary school enrollment is completed on island.is and requires an electronic ID.
All children starting primary school and after-school programs next autumn should have received a book about the start at their homes.
After-school programs (frístundaheimili)—what are they?
When school is done during the day, your child can go to an after-school program. They have exciting activities that give your child an outlet for play and creativity.
Children must be registered separately for after-school programs, which you can complete after confirming your child's primary school registration. Once your child's enrollment is approved, you'll receive information about activities and daily schedules from the after-school program by email. If service delays occur due to staffing shortages, applications will be processed according to after-school program service guidelines.

All children in Reykjavík starting primary school and after-school centers in 2026–2027, should already have received a book about starting school, sent to their home, about this beginning.

After-school centers (frístundundaheimili) - what are they?
During the day, after school is over your child can go to an after school center. They offer fun topics where your child can get an outlet for their need for play and creativity.
Children need to be registered specifically for the after-school centers. You can do that after registration for primary school has been confirmed. When the child’s stay has been approved you will receive information on the program’s function and schedule from the after-school center via email. If there will be any disruptions to the services due to staffing shortages applications will be processed in accordance to the rules for the after-school center.

Zapisy do świetlicy odbywają się osobno po rejestracji dziecka do szkoły podstawowej. Gdy Twoje dziecko otrzyma akceptację pobytu w szkole podstawowej, otrzymasz pocztą elektroniczną informacje o zajęciach i codziennym harmonogramie świetlicy. W przypadku opóźnień przyjęcia dziecka do świetlicy spowodowanych problemami kadrowymi, wnioski będą rozpatrywane zgodnie z zasadami dotyczącymi świetlicy szkolnej.
