Youth centers for teens will also be open during the summer, with hours announced separately.

Parents of children who have moved to the country within the past 12 months, whose native language is not Icelandic, and who were not born in Iceland may apply for a temporary fee waiver covering up to three weeks of after-school program and youth center summer activities, subject to eligibility requirements.

The Reykjavík School of Work also offers summer jobs for students in grades 8-10th Registration is available on the Reykjavík City website, where additional information can also be found.

New recreation website for the entire capital area

The new website fristund.is brings together all essential information about summer activities in one place, making it easier to search for sports and leisure programs. The site is designed to help parents and guardians find recreational activities for children and young people throughout the entire capital area.

All available options are listed in one place, organized by age and location, with a simple search function and regularly updated information. The website is a joint project among capital area municipalities and offers a comprehensive view of recreational activities across municipal boundaries.
