The City Council authorized the Environment and Planning Department to initiate the design procurement process for a new school at Fleyvangur in Vogabyggð. The campus will serve local preschool and elementary students as part of a broader initiative to expand services for the growing Vogabyggð community.

A versatile facility for the entire neighborhood

The 8,406-square-meter building will accommodate up to 720 students. The facility will include a 10-section preschool, a grades 1-10 primary school, a sports complex, a youth center, an after-school space, and a pedestrian and cycling bridge over Ketilbjarnarsíki linking to the city's trail network. The public square Vörputorg will sit adjacent to the school.

Design rooted in a competition entry

The design draws from Skólabrú, the winning entry in a two-stage competition that concluded in 2024, and has since been refined through ongoing collaboration between the designers and the City. The pre-design phase began in fall 2025.

Timeline and cost

Design work is expected to begin in early 2027 and conclude in 2029. Construction is scheduled to run from 2029 through 2035. The total estimated cost is approximately 15 billion ISK.
