The Department of Culture & Sports celebrates a major milestone: all of its workplaces have now earned Reykjavík City's Rainbow Certification. This includes every swimming pool, all branches of the Reykjavík City Library, the Reykjavík Art Museum, and the Reykjavík City Museum — along with the department's other workplaces.

Reykjavík City's Rainbow Certification builds awareness and understanding of LGBT+ issues, ensuring that both services and workplaces are inclusive, safe, and free from prejudice for everyone. Since the program launched in 2020, about 150 workplaces have earned the certification. High demand has consistently led to better services and safer environments for both staff and residents.

The Department of Culture & Sports was among the first City departments to join the program, and six of its workplaces became the first in Reykjavík to earn Rainbow Certification. These six were Vesturbæjarlaug swimming pool, the geothermal beach Ylströndin, the Reykjavík Family Park & Zoo, the department's main office, Breiðholtslaug swimming pool, and Gerðuberg City Library.

"It is a remarkable achievement that all Department of Culture & Sports workplaces now hold Rainbow Certification. These locations provide vital services to City residents, which now genuinely reflect the needs of LGBT+ people and the challenges they so often face," said Ugla S. Kristjönudóttur Jónsdóttir, LGBT+ affairs specialist at the Reykjavík City Human Rights Office.

The Department of Culture & Sports takes great pride in this achievement and in the collective dedication of staff who made it possible for every department workplace to earn Rainbow Certification.
