For the fifteenth year, the mayor of Reykjavík is seeking suggestions from city residents to identify a Reykjavík resident who has served as a role model in the community. These nominations will be used to select the Reykjavík Resident of the Year.

The Reykjavík Resident of the Year has been awarded annually since 2011. Only individuals who have served as role models or demonstrated conduct that benefits Reykjavík and its residents in some meaningful way will be considered.

This could be someone who has positively influenced city life, shown dedication to the local environment, or made significant contributions to the city in recent years.

The 2024 Reykjavík Resident of the Year was Marta Wieczorek, a teacher at Hólabrekkuskóli, who received the recognition for her valuable and selfless work serving children throughout the city. She has also been deeply dedicated to enhancing mother tongue education at the Polish School in Reykjavík, which was founded in 2008. The school focuses on Polish language instruction while providing crucial support for bilingual students in Iceland. Marta also teaches Icelandic classes for children who have recently moved to Reykjavík.

Nominations are greatly appreciated and should be submitted with an explanation of why the individual deserves this honor to hugmynd@reykjavik.is.

The deadline for submitting nominations is Monday, June 9, 2025.

A three-member selection committee will choose the Reykjavík Resident of the Year from the submitted nominations.
