Reykjavík's School of Work had an outstanding summer

School of Work

Reykjavík's School of Work has wrapped up a highly successful summer season, with 3,485 students completing work through the program. The work centers on beautifying, cleaning and improving the local environment. One key goal is helping students develop responsibility for their neighborhoods.

This summer, 74 instructors worked alongside the students. All students received workplace education. Additionally, the Reykjavík Art Museum provided eco-friendly art instruction for all 10th-grade students in general gardening groups; their work will be showcased on Culture Night.

The School of Work was fortunate enough to receive a social media grant from the Youth Climate Fund. Neighborhood festivals, held at the end of each session, were a big hit. The School of Work used these celebrations to create social media content emphasizing sorting, recycling, and reuse.

Valuable workplace experience

Reykjavík's School of Work offered a variety of jobs during summer 2025. General School of Work gardening groups operated in every city neighborhood and were available to all students eligible for jobs in the program. The school also worked with various partners to provide young people with diverse workplace experience. Partners included preschools, after-school programs, sports clubs and scout groups, with 1,368 students working at partner organizations this summer.

The Reykjavík School of Work emphasizes providing students with a positive experience and education in their first steps in the job market. The School of Work provides education on pay slips, resumes, work ethics and income tax. The education is tailored to the students' age.
