Reykjavík City Accessibility Recognition

Katarzyna Beata Kubis receives the 2025 Reykjavík City Accessibility Award.
Heiða Björg Hilmisdóttir presented Katarzyna Beata Kubis with the Reykjavík City Accessibility Award at Höfði today. The award aims to raise awareness about accessibility issues and highlight excellent work being done in this field.
Katarzyna receives the award for an information portal designed for parents and relatives of disabled children. The information portal shares services information in one place, with content available in both Icelandic and English.
Good accessibility, in the broad sense of the term, is an important human rights issue. Its foundation is that we can all take an active part in society regardless of accessibility needs. That's why it's important to recognize those who have focused on accessibility and contributed to improving it. By granting accessibility awards, we can encourage people to make accessibility a guiding principle from the start and to improve where needed.
While the information portal gives parents good access to services available to children, it's also accessible to various groups since it's available in English as well.
Kasia, as she's called, didn't just want to gather information in one place, but also make services accessible for families of foreign origin. In the next phase of the project, the information will be available in more languages and the content will be shared in diverse ways.
The project was developed by Þroskahjálp in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Children, which provided a grant for it in 2023.
