Icelandic Nature Day
Icelandic Nature Day is celebrated on Sept. 16 each year. The day is dedicated to Iceland's natural environment, emphasizing its importance and promoting nature conservation.
Reykjavík boasts incredibly diverse nature and green spaces. Forests, lava fields, public parks and salmon rivers blend seamlessly with waterfalls, islands, shorelines, lakes, bird habitats and mountain peaks — and that's just the beginning.
These areas matter not only to city residents but also to the many species that rely on them for survival. That's why the city has created a biodiversity policy designed to protect and nurture this natural diversity.
Today is the perfect day to experience the city's natural beauty: pick berries at Austurheiðar, take in the fall colors at Heiðmörk, watch trout in the Elliðaá river, observe birds in Grafarvogur, admire the plant life at Hljómskálagarður park, enjoy panoramic views from Móskarðshnjúkar or discover new areas through Reykjavík's website.
Let's enjoy Reykjavík's nature today and every day!
