Culture Night 2025 - preparations underway
Culture Night is approaching quickly and preparations are underway. Emergency response agencies met last week to review various issues related to Iceland's largest festival.
Meeting attendees included police, the Capital Area Fire Department, Strætó Public Transport, Landspítali Hospital, Reykjavík Marathon, Hopp, as well as tourism representatives, youth centers and prevention coordinators. Reykjavík City staff who handle festival planning and street closures also participated.
Extensive street closures will be in effect this year as in previous years, and the group reviewed when these take effect and access to the city center where festival events take place.
Police reviewed safety issues and how they will be managed during the festival. A Strætó representative explained how services will be provided for passengers wanting to reach the festival area.
A coordinated effort by all parties, along with clear information about festival operations, aims to ensure the festival runs as smoothly as possible.
Stay Smart on Culture Night
It's not just Culture Night operations and planning that matter - it's also about the entire community setting a good example during Reykjavík City's biggest family festival.
Reykjavík City is running a summer campaign calledStay Smart that focuses on positive messages to youth and their families about spending time together and healthy living.
The Stay Smart campaign is about showing each other respect, solidarity and support. Through stronger partnerships with parents and enhanced prevention education for young people, we can combat negative trends in alcohol and substance abuse and violence among young people.
Stay Smart is a call to the entire community to lead by good example and focus on positive time together and good communication.
It's important for youth to understand that they influence society through their behavior and actions. Youth are wonderful, but it's important to remember that part of growing up is having a positive impact on the people around us, behaving well and being kind to others.
Parental responsibility never takes a break - stay smart, set limits and be present on Culture Night.
Stay Smart, enjoy time with family and friends at Culture Night and travel home together when the festivities end.
