The City Council unanimously approved the mayor's wide-ranging recommendations for prevention and response to violence involving children and young people at this week's meeting. The recommendations stem from a newly released report by the steering group on prevention and response to violence involving children and young people.

The report draws on detailed analysis, broad consultation, and a review of the current situation. The recommendations also outline how best to address the actions of those who commit violence against children and young people and examine whether and how to strengthen collaboration, both within and outside the city, to improve services for children and young people who experience violence.

The recommendations emphasize a comprehensive approach to prevention, early intervention and response when problems emerge, along with resources for complex and serious cases. The recommendations place special emphasis on children and young people in at-risk groups, using a child-friendly and trauma-informed approach, integrated services, and increased inter-agency collaboration.
