Applications are now open for the Youth Climate Action Fund in Reykjavík. The fund aims to engage young people aged 15-24 in finding solutions to climate challenges and support new projects that combat climate change. The fund is a joint initiative between Reykjavík City and Bloomberg Philanthropies, with its first grants distributed last year.
Previous grants supported diverse projects including a public transit competition, hackathon, educational events, climate magazine production, ecosystem restoration, and circular economy initiatives. Reykjavík encourages young people aged 15-24 and their affiliated organizations to develop ideas and submit grant applications.
Application deadline March 10
Solving climate challenges requires widespread participation and innovative ideas from diverse perspectives. Youth involvement is essential, with international studies showing 84% of young people are worried about climate change.
Projects must align with Reykjavík's climate action plan, with grants available from 150,000 to 690,000 króna. Applicants may submit multiple proposals but can receive no more than three grants each. The total funding available is approximately 12 million króna. Multiple projects will be supported. Applications must be submitted by March 10. Grant awards will be announced on Earth Day, April 22.
