Anti-bullying song premieres at Grandaskóli – We're all on the same team
The song "We're All on the Same Team" (Öll í sama liði) premiered at Grandaskóli this morning in honor of Anti-Bullying Day. This year, Reykjavík City partnered with artists Júlí Heiðar and Dísa to create a song specifically for Anti-Bullying Day, which they performed at Grandaskóli to a packed auditorium.
Grandaboys warm up the crowd
The band Grandaboys, made up of 7th-grade students from Grandaskóli, warmed up the crowd and drew an enthusiastic response for their tight performance. Icelanders are sure to hear more from these talented young musicians in the future.
Reykjavík takes active role in creating a welcoming community
Anti-Bullying Day is Nov. 8 and is dedicated to combating bullying in schools, recreational activities, and society as a whole. Reykjavík City is actively taking steps to combat bullying and raise awareness, part of its commitment to creating a welcoming community where all children and young people belong.
The song Júlí Heiðar and Dísa composed, titled "We're All on the Same Team," delivers a message of respect, friendship, and solidarity. The song is meant to encourage people to stand together against bullying and create a safe, positive community for children and young people where everyone has a place.
Society's responsibility to respond and protect children
Bullying is not a private matter – it is a form of violence that can have profound and long-lasting consequences for victims, perpetrators, and witnesses. According to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, all children have the right to protection from violence, and it is therefore society's duty to respond and protect children and young people.
The day's goals are:
- To spark discussion and provide education about bullying and its effects.
- To encourage positive interactions, friendship and solidarity.
- To strengthen children and young people's self-awareness and social skills.
- To empower witnesses to bullying to step in and show support.
The City's Department of Education & Youth has developed a wide range of educational materials and videos with experts for use in schools and recreational programs to foster dialogue and a deeper understanding of bullying.
