18 Reykjavík preschool staff graduate as preschool teachers

Group of newly graduated preschool teachers

Since last October, 18 preschool staff in Reykjavík have earned their preschool teaching degrees—an important step toward strengthening professional standards in the city’s early education system. On June 18, the Preschool Division of the Department of Education & Youth celebrated the graduates with a small reception.

Studied while working

All of them completed their studies while continuing to work in Reykjavík preschools, supported by the City’s study leave program. These graduates are expected to play a key role in improving preschool education—both now and in the years to come. Graduation dates span October 2024 to June 2025.

Study leave supports teacher training

Reykjavík City’s study leave policy helps more staff become certified preschool teachers, boosting the number of trained professionals in the field. The program offers up to 35 days per school year for staff to attend classes or complete field placements. Staff apply for study leave in collaboration with their preschool director.

The Department of Education & Youth warmly congratulates the new graduates and looks forward to their continued contributions to the city’s preschools.

The new graduates received birch saplings as gifts. Newly graduated preschool teachers honored with a light reception.
