Update (Jan. 18):Snow and sleet are falling across the city. Snowdrifts and heavy ice may make driving difficult on some residential streets, especially in higher-elevation neighborhoods. Please exercise caution. Crews have deployed all winter maintenance equipment on main roads and paths. Winter maintenance crews will begin clearing residential streets after 8 a.m.
Winter maintenance services are fully prepared to begin clearing streets and paths tonight, using all available equipment throughout the day. We will provide more information in the morning. Residents can submit feedback through the Suggestion Portal.
Clear snow from bins
Waste collection staff are also ready for difficult conditions and ask residents to clear snow from around their waste bins so crews can empty them. Waste collection crews will operate in Breiðholt, Árbær, and Grafarholt tomorrow.
During snowy and icy conditions, it is crucial to consider the working conditions of waste collection staff. Please clear snow from bins, sand and salt walking paths, verify that doors and bins are not frozen shut, and ensure adequate lighting. Thank you.
Crews may have to skip collection if snow has not been cleared from around waste bins.
