CityLine planning and environmental assessment for phase 1 open for public review
CityLine Zoning
Reykjavík City and Kópavogur have approved the release of municipal plan framework proposals for the first phase of CityLine. The first phase runs between Ártúnshöfði in Reykjavík and Hamraborg in Kópavogur.
The planning documents cover CityLine's route, station locations and the environmental impacts of CityLine construction and operations. The documents also outline general guidelines for street corridor design and prioritizing active transportation and public transit.
The Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration has also released an environmental assessment report for the first phase of CityLine construction.
CityLine will create a new public transit system that better connects municipalities in the capital area, improving quality of life and making daily life easier for residents. This project strengthens infrastructure and marks a key step in addressing climate change and improving public health.
Informational meetings in the new year
The planning documents and environmental assessment report are available on the Urban Planning Portal. The comment period runs until Jan. 25, 2025.
Informational meetings will be held in the new year: on Thursday, Jan. 9, and in Kópavogur on Jan. 15. The meetings will be advertised in more detail later.
