Where is there potential for a square in your neighborhood? Where’s a good spot to sit and relax? Where can you find sun and shelter? Where will the city's next square be? People planning to participate in Reykjavík City's Standby Squares project this year should answer these questions. This year's theme is "offshoots," and we're looking for projects outside the city center that offer opportunities to create small squares or leisure areas in the city's neighborhoods.
When selecting projects, we prioritize user-friendly and quality design that encourages people to stay and enjoy the space. All approved projects will be featured in the greenhouse at Lækjartorg throughout the summer. The city center squares extend their reach into the neighborhoods, supporting local communities and social sustainability.

About Standby Squares
Standby Squares has been running since 2011. Thereby creating more enjoyable spaces and embracing the unexpected as a platform for radical experimentation with the urban environment.
Last year we focused on climate change issues and how to increase carbon storage and promote biodiversity in urban spaces to create ideal conditions for people, birds and plants to thrive.
