Crews deployed all snow clearing equipment across Reykjavík overnight to resume work from the previous day.
Path clearing continues to progress well today. Street clearing also continued, prioritizing residential streets today, and progress has been steady. Crews are also addressing suggestions about various issues, primarily relating to conditions on residential streets.
Forecasters predict no significant weather changes for Reykjavík over the next 24 hours. Winter maintenance operations are generally on track, with crews aiming to complete as much work as possible before the weekend.
Weather forecasts for New Year's Eve remain inconsistent. We expect some snowfall but will reassess conditions as the date approaches. If significant snow falls on New Year's Eve, snowplowing efforts will prioritize widening bus routes.
Waste collection — Dec. 28, 2022
The Reykjavík Waste Collection Department is currently tackling its heaviest workload, concentrating efforts in Vesturbær and the city center. Crews are collecting gray bins in those areas. Our priority is to complete gray bin collection west of the Elliðaár rivers before New Year's. This remains on schedule.
Blue and green bins
Crews collected blue bins (paper) and green bins (plastic) in Grafarvogur today, and they have now begun that work in Vesturbær. We still expect a significant backlog around New Year's. Blue and green bin collection is running two days behind schedule, and the delay could extend to three days.
Waste collectors are working an extra hour each day this week, including on New Year's Eve.
We encourage residents to shovel around their waste bins to ensure easy access for waste collection staff.
