To request access to data from the Department of Environment & Planning at Reykjavík City under the Information Act No. 140/2012 or the Administrative Procedures Act No. 37/1993, you must complete the designated request form through My Pages on the Reykjavík City website. If you request data from Public Health Authority, you must submit your request through the Reykjavík Public Health website.

Who can request data?

You have the right to request access to existing public data concerning any specific case with Reykjavík City.

Request processing times

  • Reykjavík City will decide whether to grant a data request as quickly as possible.
  • If the City has not processed a request within seven days of receipt, the applicant will receive an explanation for the delay and an estimated decision date.
  • If processing is unreasonably delayed, the applicant may appeal the matter to the appeals committee on information affairs.

What to Include?

To process a data access request, you must clearly identify the target data or the relevant case. Providing clear details helps City staff define the scope of your request and process it more efficiently.

Dismissal of a request

Reykjavík City may dismiss a request if the provided information is insufficient to identify specific data or a case. Before that happens, the applicant will receive guidance and an opportunity to clarify their request further.

Denial of a request

  • Reykjavík City may deny a data access request if fulfilling it requires unreasonable time or effort, or if strong indications suggest an unlawful purpose.
  • Reykjavík City may also deny a request if the data are exempt from the right to information—for example, if they are working documents or if private or public interests are at stake.
  • If a request is submitted under the Information Act, the applicant may appeal a denial of access, or a refusal to provide data in the requested format, to the appeals committee on information affairs. The appeal must reach the committee within 30 days of the applicant being notified of the decision.
  • If a request is submitted under the Administrative Procedures Act, the applicant may appeal a denial or restriction to the administrative authority responsible for hearing appeals in the case. The applicant must submit the appeal within 14 days of being notified of the decision.
