The City Executive Council makes decisions on new developments, approved by City Council. The City Planning Officer in Reykjavík issues development permits for major projects. The Office of Operations and Maintenance of City Land handles processing and issuing permits. Apply for a use permit if breaking the surface or planning to use city land for events or facilities like containers or work platforms.

City land

Is a collective term for all land belonging to Reykjavík City: streets, sidewalks, paths and open spaces. The projects and uses are many and varied.
