Reykjavík City will build a 200-child, 10-classroom preschool in Völvufell in the coming years. Preparation is underway, and a competition for the new preschool design will take place in 2023.

The neighborhood has residents who speak many languages and have diverse backgrounds.

Children's center

A new preschool will include a children's center. Parents can bring their children to meet other parents and staff and enjoy quality time.

The children's center is for parents and children not in preschool. Neighborhood residents can use the grounds when the school is closed.

What would an ideal preschool in a multicultural community look like?

To best serve the area's multicultural community, a consultation meeting will be held at Gerðuberg 13 on December 13 at 8:30am.

The meeting will be in Icelandic with interpretation in five languages: Polish, English, Spanish, Arabic and Thai.

Participants will split into language groups to discuss the ideal preschool for a multicultural community.

We'll consider how to best work with the area's multiculturalism. Participants will answer questions in their own language.

All interested parties are welcome to attend and participate.

Idea collection

Ideas from the Gerðuberg meeting and submitted online will be used in planning and for the preschool design competition.

You can also submit ideas and suggestions on Reykjavík City's consultation website.
