Description:

Transport for the Capital Area is a public company established by the government of Iceland and municipalities in the capital area (Reykjavík, Kópavogur, Hafnarfjörður, Garðabær, Mosfellsbær and Seltjarnarnes) to invest in transportation infrastructure in the region.

The goal is to improve safety, enhance transportation for all modes of travel and reduce delays, substantially strengthen public transportation, and reduce pollution from suspended particulates and greenhouse gas emissions to meet national and municipal climate goals.

Vehicle mileage (private cars, buses, delivery vehicles and heavy trucks) is estimated to decrease by approximately 352,300 km per day in 2040 compared to business as usual (BAU).

Removed/substituted energy, volume, or fuel type

The transportation system is estimated to reduce traffic by 5% compared to the baseline forecast (BAU) through 2040. Less fossil fuel will be used compared to the baseline forecast.
