Parklets

Parklets are parking spaces temporarily converted into leisure areas for city residents and visitors. These parklets focus on creating enjoyable spaces for people in the city's sunny street areas, encouraging relaxation, interaction and play.

Creating a lively urban environment

Parklets are experimental, and may result in changes to street spaces and their conversion into permanent leisure areas. At the same time, the initiative aims to engage residents and stakeholders to think about their local environment and encourage participation in shaping these areas.

Diversity and interesting design are fundamental aspects of creating parklets, supporting the goal of creating an exciting and lively urban environment.

Parklet guidelines

Parklets often connect to the street-side businesses and are generally initiated by businesses. On April 26, 2023, guidelines on parklets were approved in the Environmental & Planning Council.

The purpose of these guidelines is to simplify and clarify the process of creating and setting up parklets on municipal land. They enhance safety, improve appearances, and increase daily life in urban spaces. The design guidelines also cover issues like accessibility, delimitation, material selection, street data and usage.

Applicants for parklets bear all the costs related to design, setup, and obtaining permission for the spot.
