Today, March 31, is International Transgender Day of Visibility, and to mark the occasion, the transgender flag is flying at Reykjavík City Hall.

First observed in 2009, the day celebrates the visibility and advances the rights of transgender people worldwide. The goal is to celebrate diversity and emphasize that transgender people must be treated with dignity and afforded equal rights in society—free from discrimination, prejudice, and exclusion.

Reykjavík City is marking this significant day by flying the transgender flag at Reykjavík City Hall and drawing public attention to the rights and lived experiences of transgender people.

Over the years, the City has demonstrated its commitment to the LGBT+ community through initiatives like a services agreement with Samtökin '78 — The National Queer Organisation of Iceland, LGBT+ education programs for staff, and ongoing support for Reykjavík Pride.

Reykjavík City also proudly offers Rainbow Certification to all City workplaces, helping make our services and work environments safer and more welcoming for LGBT+ people. We extend our warmest wishes to transgender people everywhere today.

Happy Transgender Day of Visibility!
